I Have a New Love

For the past six and a half years I have been unhappy and knew I wanted more than my current relationship would ever be able to provide for me. My husband has known that i have been unhappy for a while now. He was apprehensive about me starting the relationship at first; thinking I might be making a mistake. After seeing us together this past weekend he agreed that we should carry our relationship to the next level.

She moved in with us on Sunday. Joey helped get her settled into our home and he has been extremely supportive of my new love affair. Even he agrees that she is beautiful. She has curves in all the right places and her complexion is flawless. The feel of her cool, alabaster skin sends chills up my spine. Having her here with me all the time has brightened my life. I have a new sense of purpose. Joey really enjoys watching me interact with her. In fact, he encourages me to spend all the time I can with her. I really don't know how I lived this long without her and I hope I never have to experience life without her again.

I suppose you are dying to see a picture of her. I guess I could at least post a couple of shots; after all, she is the most beautiful thing I have ever laid eyes on. I am sure you will agree that she's gorgeous!

Two Steps Forward, Three Steps Back

Life is filled with ups and downs and twists and turns. I use to become very anxious about the changes in my life but as I grow older I find that I can see how God uses my circumstances to shape me into a better person. Today was one of the days of life that have the ability to leave you discouraged and depressed.

Wednesday is therapy day for G. He has all three therapies on Wednesdays so that gives me + - 3 hours to myself. I had planned on using the time today to get some housework done. We were about to eat lunch when we made the discovery. J turned the kitchen faucet on and nothing happened. We had no water whatsoever. I had not yet taken a shower and was going to be taking G to therapy in less than an hour.

After a few minutes of bewilderment my sweet precious husband who has way too much on his plate lately discovered that he has been riding around with our water bill and payment in his work bag. He made out the check in plenty of time but in all the chaos, that is our life, he forgot to deliver it. Our water had been cut off for non-payment.

At one time this kind of thing would have sent me crashing over the deep end but today it was simply a little inconvenience. It just wasn't important enough to get upset over. One phone call to the water department (payment and $50 late fee paid on the phone) and the matter was resolved. My husband was much more upset about it than I was. To me it is just a funny story to remember. If that is the worst thing that happens I think we will be okay.

I did find it amusing that this situation occurred the day after I announced that I was taking control of my life. The truth is we only possess a certain amount of control. Things happen. We make mistakes. Life is not perfect but that does not mean that we can't enjoy living it. You can't sweat the small stuff and you can't let it get you down. At times like that you have to find the humor, give a little chuckle, and move on.

Days like today make me realize how much I love my crazy, sometimes chaotic, sweet, sweet life.

Organizing My Life

This week I have decided to take control of my life. I need order and organization in my life to be able to function at my best and somewhere along the way I lost the ability to keep it all together. During the first 20 years of my marriage I was organized, knew where everything was, and had routines that kept my life in order and me sane. I'm not sure which came first, the insanity or the chaos. It is kinda like the chicken and the egg thing; it doesn't really matter which came first because either way one of them caused the other and the cycle simply continues.

Meal planning and execution are a big challenge for me. Sweet G has wheat and peanut allergies. I suppose that my problems with meals started around the time he was diagnosed. You can't imagine how many products contain wheat. It is almost impossible to eat out and typical kid foods are out of the question. As I am writing this post I came to the realization that there are tons of things G can eat, they just aren't quick and easy. No PB&J when mommy is having a stressful day. Spice mixes are often wheat culprits causing stress in remembering which ones are safe. We basically need to cook all our food from scratch. As I read this I am thinking, "Isn't that what you should be doing anyway?"

Anyway, this week I found an app for my iPad. You can either use Paper plate online or with the app and they sync with each other so you can switch from the computer to iPad without losing anything in the process. It will allow you to plan menus, record recipes, make shopping lists, and more! So far I love it. I am able to set up several menus and simply insert them onto my calendar. It keeps everything at my fingertips which simplifies my life.

During the writing of this post I realized that I need to create my own spice mixes so I can eliminate that problem from my life. No more packaged spice mixes! I guess that is next on the agenda in the kitchen department.

My second project has been to clean out and organized the computer. It is full and reminds me of days during my teaching practicum when I would try to file things in certain teachers file cabinets. There is only so much one drawer can hold and still be functional and the same is true for my laptop. My entire college experience is crammed into that hard drive and it just can't hold anything else. The photos are the main problem. We have thousands of them and I am sure some of them are duplicates.

Every little bit I do makes me feel better. I am trying to stay focused and take baby steps so I don't get overwhelmed. I just have to keep telling myself, "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can." I'll keep you updated on my progress!

Standing at the Screen Door

My parents divorced before I was old enough to retain any memories of the time they were together. There is not one picture of me with both of my parents. Not one trace of evidence from the life we lived together. For that reason I find it impossible to imagine that we ever had the same last name or lived together as a family although we did for only a short time.

In my earliest memory I am standing at a screen door crying for my parents. From what I can remember I believe it must have been springtime which means I was less than two years old. My mother's sister is telling me that my Mom is at work and that my Daddy will be here soon to pick me up. That first memory is one of loss, abandonment, fear, and confusion. It explains a lot about who I am and how my personality was formed. I understand so many things about who I am and how that first memory held me prisoner without me realizing it.

I spent many years feeling like a victim. Social situations almost crippled me. I scrutinized every conversation and became my own worst enemy. Fear and shame were my constant companions until I slowly started seeing myself the way God sees me. Little by little I gained a new self image and stopped worrying about what others thought so much. Those feelings have not gone away but I have learned to control them instead of letting them control me.

Lately I've been feeling somewhat like that little girl; confused, afraid, alone, abandoned, unloved. I know that those feelings are real and justified but unlike that baby girl standing at the screen door I don't have to let those feelings define me or hold me prisoner. I have a new identity in Christ. He will never leave me or forsake me. He shelters me beneath His wings.

8Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

Pear Preserve Revenge

My blood was boiling by the time I reached the house. If I couldn't have my blue ribbon preserves then I'd have partridge for supper! That blasted bird ruined every pear in that tree and I was determined to have the satisfaction of picking his bones as clean as he picked my tree.

I grabbed my shotgun and racked a cartridge into the chamber as I stepped off the porch. That partridge was about to be blasted out of that pear tree. I took careful aim. There was no way I was gonna miss out on my revenge. Bam! Click, click, bam!

I saw him fall to the ground followed by two of his friends. I chuckled as I walked toward the carcasses. I couldn't tell what the other two birds were until I reached the tree. Two turtle doves lay beside the partridge.

Pear Tree Prowler

The pears were perfect for picking. I decided tomorrow would be the day I'd make my prize winning pear preserves. I drifted off to sweet sleep dreaming about that blue ribbon I'd win when the county fair came around to our neck of the woods.

The day dawned clear and bright. I was so excited that I didn't even take time to eat. Those pears were waiting to be picked and made into the perfect preserves. I grabbed my basket as I walked out the back door and headed for the pear tree.

When I reached the tree I couldn't believe my eyes. There was not one perfect pear left on that tree! Something had destroyed my pears and I intended to kill the varment responsible. I moved around the tree and spotted the culprit. There he sat;a partridge in my pear tree.

Autumn Memories

Fall is here and it brought along with it memories of years gone by. Years of running and playing with T underneath trees adorned in beautiful jewel colored dresses. Soft breezes nipping at our noses causing them to turn red and become as cold as ice. The absence of summer's birdsongs make it almost too eerie to stay outside but we have hide and seek to keep us busy. I am content to be outside until darkness begins to close in around us because I have the king of the hill by my side.

The memory of another fall day comes into focus. I see a tow-haired boy about two years old running through a pile of leaves. His giggles rising above the sound of an approaching train. He is dressed in red overalls and a white turtle neck. His speech is filled with the sounds of y as he excitedly tells me to, "do it yike dis." Suddenly he is transformed into a cowboy and takes off "yiding a buwll" with his arm flailing wildly as his head nods back and forth bucking to the rhythm of the imaginary bull. Slowly the sun begins to set and my heart starts to break as we have to let this day end.

Memories of hayrides with fellow homeschoolers push themselves the the center of my attention. Bowls of warm spicy chili lend us their heat as they fill our stomachs. The sounds of children laughing float down to parent's ears as the adventurous children climb higher into the rafters of the barn over mounds of fresh bails of hay. Sweet songs and giggles dance into the night as a tractor pulls a wagon loaded with families nestled in sweet fresh hay. All too soon this day is over and reluctant children are shooed toward cars and home.

Six years ago we started hosting a Halloween party in our home. We have several special families that have come to our home year after year to celebrate fall with us. A traditional supper of chili and hot dogs is served before we all set out in my neighborhood for a fun night of trick-or-treating. There are special memories being made for adults as well as children. Each year is a little different as one by one our children grow too old to dress up and participate in the ritual of going from house to house gathering candy. This year our kids sat in the floor, sorted their candy, and began trading with each other. I sat and soaked in their energetic giggles and silly comments, knowing that there will never be another Halloween quite like this one.

The last memory comes into my mind in a rush. It is a cool fall evening after dark. Children begin to explore a haunted forest filled with witches and monsters and their screams fill the night. They play hide and seek until one by one parents arrive to retrieve them. This will be the last Halloween of their childhood. The next time Halloween will hold the same excitement will be years in the future when they take their own children trick or treating.

Life has a way of slipping by you if you're not careful. I find that it's the little spontaneous moments that keep returning to my mind. As I go through life I pray that I don't forget to stop and enjoy the simple pleasures a day can bring. They are always there waiting for us to seek them out, if only we will try. Ready or not, here I come!

My Little Man

Today Sweet G had therapy. We were asked to come early so he could be seen by the equipment man. I sometimes forget how special G really is and just how many people work to see him succeed but I was reminded of those things today.

It is time for a new walker since G is on the last notch of his current walker. The ability to walk with the aide of a walker is a huge accomplishment for G and will give him a little independence but there is nothing little about that boy. He has a huge heart, an enormous appetite for life, and a personality and strength that are immeasurable. Okay is not good enough for Sweet G. That is not only my opinion but it is the opinion of anyone who has the gift of being introduced to G. I see it on the faces of strangers as they overhear his comments, in the tears of choir members as he lifts his hands in worship.

Today he sat and chatted with his buddy Brian the equipment salesman like a little man. They discussed Ultimate Fighting and G burst into uncontrollable laughter when Brian said, "I love UFC but I can't watch it. My wife won't let me." Without missing a beat and with absolute abandon G replied, "Even I can watch Ultimate Fighting." Brian sat patiently talking to G enjoying the conversation as much as G until another child required his attention. I know that Brian loves G (other kids too) because besides ordering a walker for G he is also ordering G some hemi-walkers to try. He most likely won't be able to get paid for both and will let the profit from one cover the loss on the other. This is not uncommon. Like many others who invest in G, Brian wants to see G reach his highest potential even if it requires self sacrifice.

While sitting in the lobby waiting for his therapy to begin G announces that he is going to hang out with Mr. Dave until Miss Ami is ready. I told him that he couldn't go bother Mr. Dave because he was working. About that time the receptionist walks in and says, "Hey, what's up dude?" G says, "Well, I really want to go hang out with Mr. Dave." I again remind him that Mr. Dave is working. A minute later the receptionist sticks her head back in the door and says, "Mr. Dave says come on back." That was all he needed to hear and immediately rolls himself to Mr. Dave's office with speed and ease he doesn't often display. So, for twenty minutes he sits in the office having man time with his buddy Mr. Dave watching clips on the Internet.

G lovingly calls his physical therapist the mean one or the hard one. She definitely has the hardest job of all his therapists. He gives her the most resistance but she doesn't seem to notice. She's been with him longer than any other therapist and she is tough when she needs to be because she loves him. During therapy we are discussing G's progress and the possibility for his future. Miss Ami looked at me and said, "I want him to accomplish as much as he possibly can. I want to see him walk across the stage to graduate. I really believe he can do it."

What a blessing God gave our family when he sent Sweet G. Little did we know how that three pound bundle of joy was going to transform our lives and the lives of so many others. I sit in amazement as I see how God uses that little boy.

Jesus Weeps

Tonight as I was casually browsing through my long list of blogs I came upon a post entitled "Love Never Fails" from Big Mama's blog. That post as well as an article a friend linked on facebook today have spoken to me or rather God spoke to me through them.

Today was Sweet G's long therapy day so I met my husband for lunch. As we ate we talked about all that is going on in our lives. We questioned how our intentions and feelings could be so misunderstood. We are heartbroken that others see us as the bad guys in a situation we had nothing to do with. We saw where things were headed and in our obviously poor communication failed to get our message across clearly.

I told my husband after he prayed over our food that I cringed when he prayed for those involved. I went on to say how wrong I know it is for me to feel that way. Realizing my feelings are wrong is the first step toward forgiveness. I know I need to, that I am commanded to, but right now I just don't want to. I am hurt and feel like I have been backed into a corner. That isn't such a good place for me to be! I don't like being bullied and don't stand in corners for long. I know that is something that God is working on because He keeps allowing me to face situations that place me directly into the corner so to speak.

I also need to ask for forgiveness from a few people. Don't ya just love doing that. I am struggling with feeling justified in my anger because I keep hearing a little voice say, "They started it. They yelled at me first. The first insult came from them and was aimed at me."

The truth is that I don't want to be the kind of person who won't ask forgiveness or give forgiveness. I will do both in time but it is hard to ask forgiveness when you have been accused of things you didn't say or didn't mean in the way the person perceived what you said. It is also impossible to explain your point of view when the other person attacks you verbally and won't give you a chance to talk without being interrupted.

The article I read today spoke about overcoming fear. Although I am not experiencing that particular emotion right now there were things in that article that spoke straight to my heart. One thing the article said was to imagine Christ kneeling in a room of your house praying for you. I will describe what I see.

I see His nail scarred hands folded in prayer. I hear Him as He pleads for God to show me grace and mercy. Tears fall as He asks the Father to soften my calloused heart. He begs for me to be comforted and protected from the fiery darts being shot at me. "Keep her safe Father. Send healing to her heart. Forgive her stubbornness and remove the scales covering her eyes so she may see Your truth. She's mine, Father. Pick her up and hold her in Your loving arms. Whisper comforting words in her ear. Surround her with Your presence. Dry her tears and lead her to the throne. Strengthen her to make it through another day. Renew her joy and fill her with your Holy Spirit until it splashes all around her. Carry her through this storm until she is strong enough to walk beside You. I love her Father. She is covered by my blood. I paid the cost for her. Show her she has a future and a hope and thank you dear Father for the plans you have in store for her."

For Love or Truth

Have you ever been in a no win situation? At some point I think we all are faced with impossible situations. We are forced to decide whether we will follow the popular path of those around us or take the less traveled path we know is honorable and true. In choosing you either go against those you love or compromise your principles.

It is possible to disagree with the actions of a person and still love them. I know because I have learned that lesson many times over through personal experience. Those who disagree with my inability to bury my head in the sand and ignore the obvious would disagree. They would tell you that the fact they are willing to ignore the handwriting on the wall means that their love is the genuine love. That simply is not true. It is possible to love someone and not agree with their actions. Loving someone doesn't mean you have to overlook things you know are wrong in an attempt to protect or support the person.

There comes a point when you must choose between what is right and what is popular. For too many years things have been swept under the family rug. Skeletons have been pushed into the back of closets all in the name of love. Is that love of family or love of self? Fear that someone would judge me for the choices of another. We sacrificed the wellbeing of one of our own to keep peace. That is not love-it is disfunction. What started as a tiny scratch has become a vile gangrene infected mess that can no longer be hidden beneath a band-aid.

I find it sad but amusing that as a Christian when I show concern and reach out to someone in love I am labeled a hypocrite but when I speak the truth I am told that I lack compassion.

Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.

Disappear

Almost three months ago my world started crashing in around me. Choices made by others came with consequences that affected lots of other people and I am one of them. I found myself in a similar situation almost seven years ago. A person I loved and admired deeply made some terrible choices that ultimately removed them from my life and the lives of many others forever. In the aftermath of the incident we stumbled through life for a long time trying to find our way back to a place of peace, contentment and joy. We did experience joy and peace during those years but there were also days, weeks, and months filled with chaos, pain, fear, and an overwhelming sense of betrayal and loss. Loss of fellowship with loved ones, loss of trust, loss of a normal life. My world was shaken and it took me six long years to gain a new normal as I accepted and moved past the pain that individual caused me.

This new event in my life is a repeat of the past in many ways. I find myself lost, hurt, and betrayed. This time is different for me though. I suppose the past seven years prepared me for this. I have moved through the stages of dealing with all of it much faster than I did last time. I know how this kind of situation plays out. Alliances are made, feelings are hurt, relationships lost. I don't have six years to waste on something that I know the outcome of. I have to keep moving forward and the sooner I can do so the better.

My head knows those things but my heart takes a little more time to follow. I will find a new normal. Life will go on. One thing that helped me early on in dealing with the pain of betrayal seven years ago was Christian music. There were several songs that ministered to me during those dark days and one of them was Disappear by Bebo Norman. I have provided the lyrics to that song because today I find myself wanting to run away from everything and I know the only place I can run is to Jesus. I hope they speak to you like they do me.

On a day like this
I want to crawl beneath a rock
A million miles from the world
The noise, the commotion
That never seems to stop

And on a day like this
I want to run away from the routine
Run away from the daily grind
That can suck the life, right out of me
I only know one place I can run to

I want to hide in You
The way, the life, the truth so I can disappear
And love is all there is to see coming out of me
And You become clear as I disappear

I don't want to care about earthly things
Be caught up in all the lies that trick my eyes
They say it's all about me
I'm so tired of it being about me

I want to hide in You
The way, the life, the truth and I can disappear
And love is all there is to see coming out of me
And You become clear as I disappear

I would rather be cast away
Separated from the human race
If I don't bring You glory
If I don't bring You glory
If I don't bring You glory

'Cause I want to hide in You
The way, the life, the truth and I can disappear
And love is all there is to see coming out of me
And You become clear as I disappear

Charlie Sheen

Sweet G and I were in bed watching television when Sara Evan's video I'm a Little Bit Stronger comes on GAC. G says, "This song makes me cry so don't look at me. Boo Hoo Hoo. Hee Hee Hee!" A minute later he says, "That guy is lame."

I asked him why and he says, "Cause he fell in love with another woman and I am not ever going to leave my Karen (aka Mommy). I don't know if this makes sense but I think he might be in gay."

I say, "No, G he's not gay if he left for another woman."

G, "Oh, he's just like Charlie Sheen then."

That boy is too much!
